How would you fare without electricity for one, two, or even five days?
Over the last several days the news outlets have been covering the severe winter weather and its impact to areas across the Midwest and now the Northeast. Some residents have experienced power outages lasting from several hours to several days due to the ice storms.
Leading us to ask the question: How would you fare without electricity for one, two, or even five days?
As high end homeowners’, with valuable collectibles that may suffer damage due to variations in temperature and humidity, we strongly encourage you to check the functioning of your home’s back-up electrical generator. If you do not currently own a back-up generator it would be advisable to consider purchasing one to protect your property.
Emergency back-up generators can restore power to a home within seconds of a power outage. Make sure the generator chosen is capable of delivering enough power to run all the essential electrical units in the home, such as:
- Fire and other life saving systems
- Refrigerators, and other necessary home appliances
- Sump and Well pumps
- Furnace fan
- Several lights for visibility, reducing the risk of fire caused by the use of candles
The cost of an electrical back-up generator varies, but a good rule of thumb is around $1,000 per KW installed. An electrician can assist in choosing the correct back-up generator for your client’s specific needs.
